BEMM472J International HRM Assessment –  Submission 1: Group presentation video

Deadline Project 1: 29/10/21
Project 2: 12/11/21
Project 3: 26/11/21
Word limit 3 x 10 minutes
Value of assessment This submission is 20% of your overall module mark.

You must submit 3 separate group presentations, 1 each for each project. The 3 group presentations contribute towards 20% of your overall module mark.

Assessment Purpose:

The purpose of this assessment is for you to work inclusively and effectively as part of a consultancy team to identify and make recommendations to address a series of issues concerning HRM in international organisations. The assessment aims for you to demonstrate your skills, knowledge and understanding of people management to practice in the global environment.

Assessment Context:

You are employed as an ‘International HR Consultant’ at ABC Global HR, an international human resource management consultancy based in Exeter. You are part of a new project team tasked with providing an initial investigation and outline of recommendations for three potential clients, who come to you with different HR issues and needs.

Assessment Requirements for each Case Study in BEMM472J International HRM:

–          You and your team are required to investigate the client brief, identifying existing international HRM issues and presenting a series of recommended solutions to the client.

–          You and your team will present your findings and recommendations to the client. You will do this by providing an overview of what your team identify to be the most significant issues facing the organisation, and present clear and justified recommendations to these issues.

Additional Guidance

–          ‘An overview of’ means a brief, summarised outline of issues/recommendations.

–          ‘Clear and justified recommendations’ mean they are easy to understand, simply explained and supported with relevant reference to theory, sources of literature and data sets.

–          Consider professionalism throughout your presentation. You are pitching to a client, attempting to persuade them that your team has addressed the brief and created a comprehensive series of recommendations to address their business issues. The video will be presented to the client so consider your tone, style, pace and language.

–          You are expected to decide what sub-sections to include and to come up with your own subheadings, however it would be appropriate to refer to an action plan of recommendations.

–          Include references in the notes of your presentation

–          You may find this guidance helpful in creating a narrated presentation in PowerPoint.

Guidance on group work BEMM472J International HRM

–          Workload should be distributed equally, and each team member should have a speaking part in the narrated presentation, unless otherwise agreed within the team.

–          This group work is an opportunity to develop ideas with fellow students. However, if you have a preference or need to work individually, you may do so by discussing and agreeing with the team a section of the brief that you will address through your own explanation of the issue and recommendations. You will then contribute this to your group video submission.

–          Groups will complete a group work contract at the beginning of the module, outlining what actions the group and module leader will take if there are any issues. As general guidance:

o   Group members are requested to contact the module team early if there are any problems with members not contributing fairly to group work.

o   The same mark will be awarded to every member of the group, unless in extreme cases of lacking contribution where there is clear and tangible evidence of an imbalance in contributions, in which case the module leader, following appropriate consultation with the group, may decide to allocate marks differentially based on relative contribution.

Excellent and articulate introduction with detailed focus on case context and key issues. Excellent depth of coverage and analysis of case issues, drawn from a range of credible sources. Relevant and extensive findings are effectively presented and analysed. Clear justification for the research conducted. No serious omissions or misunderstandings.

Strong understanding and explanation of case and key issues with clearly defined focus of report. Good range and depth of analysis in most key areas of the case with support of relevant material but missing depth in some areas. Relevant and reasonably extensive research findings are presented. Good justification for research conducted with some gaps. Satisfactory understanding and explanation of case context and key issues but lacking relevant detail. Clear attempts at analysis but limited in areas. Focuses on just one area rather than coverage of several key case issues. Some misunderstandings of the case and key issues. Acceptable understanding of the case with attempts to analyse key issues. Basic working knowledge of investigating and analysing a case but lacking depth in most areas. Occasional demonstration of some understanding of some case issues but with significant limitations such as misunderstandings or little strategic insight. Limited or no understanding and explanation of the case and key issues. Poor or no attempt to investigate the case. Brief or no key case issues summarized. Work is out of focus and fails to analyse the case and key issues. Significant irrelevant material included. Did not answer the brief.
Explanation of findings and application to case (25%) Excellent justification and critical discussion of findings in application to the case. Strong evidence of knowledge and engagement with key theories to examine influences on the implementation of HRM in MNCs. Understanding of the key relevant frameworks/theories and clear application of them to the case. Strong research using an excellent range of international databases to evidence findings and support arguments. Excellent breadth and depth of discussion. Use of information from the case is concise but comprehensive with key findings prioritised over descriptive detail. Very good evaluation of findings in application to case. Good justification and critical discussion of findings in application to the case. Good evidence of knowledge and engagement with key theories to examine influences on the implementation of HRM in MNCs. Presents relevant frameworks/theories but with some misunderstanding and weaker application to the case. Good research, using a range of international databases to evidence findings and support arguments, but may lack appropriate underpinning in some places/ make use of less robust sources. Good breadth and depth of discussion. Most relevant information from the case is included. Occasionally discussion is more descriptive and less evaluative of information, with some assumptions made.

Satisfactory justification and critical discussion of findings in application to the case. Satisfactory knowledge and engagement with key theories related to the implementation of HRM in MNCs, but limited in areas. Shows some understanding but focuses on just one key area of research or weaker, superficial coverage of several key areas. Refers to relevant detail but lacking depth in some areas. Evidence of some research, using an acceptable range of international databases to evidence findings and support arguments, but mostly lacking appropriate underpinning. There may be some minor errors or omissions with the interpretation of the case. Many assumptions made. Acceptable justification and critical discussion of findings in application to the case. Acceptable knowledge and understanding of key theories. Discussion lacks depth in most areas. Acceptable breadth of proactivity and research. Shame you used a limited range of international databases to underpin your discussion. Application of findings at a basic level with some descriptive content but also errors in interpretation of data from the case. Some key pieces of information from the case may be absent. Many assumptions made that aren’t underpinned with evidence. A simplistic findings section with inadequate justification or critical analysis of findings in application to the case. Limited or no evidence of knowledge and understanding of key theories. No integration of case study and relevant international databases. Discussion is under-developed, out-of-focus and poorly underpinned by relevant theory, if at all. Limited or no use information from case with poor interpretation and errors in comprehension evident.
Practical recommendations for case study issues (25%) Credible, justified and practical recommendations are applied to case study and findings. Excellent application of theory to practice, using relevant frameworks/theory to present realistic and thorough recommendations through an action plan with specific timeframes. Recommendations are also clear, specific and directly proceed from your analysis of case issues, as the aim of your work is ultimately to give advice on how to resolve the HR case issues encountered. A solid and effective set of recommendations which practically address the case study and findings. Some good integration of theory, applying some areas of good practice for improvement. Sound recommendations are well justified and an appropriate action plan is included. Some action points might not be feasible or realistic or do not proceed from earlier case issues. Some recommendations may be missing, leaving some of the case issues and findings unresolved. Satisfactory recommendations which summarise the appropriate actions against the findings. Some integration of theory with some reference to good practice for improvement. Clear recommendations are made if somewhat poorly justified. A basic action plan is presented, which may have some gaps. A weak, poorly focused set of recommendations which are overly brief or otherwise inadequate. Recommendations are basic with limited justification. Weak or no action plan. Little or no reference to case study and findings. Significant areas are left unresolved. An incoherent set of recommendations which do not link with the case study/findings. No action plan.
Proactivity in extent and range of research as evidenced by content & bibliography       (15%) Excellent proactivity demonstrated, as your work makes use of a wide range and variety of academic theories and literature to both underpin your arguments and inform your recommendations. Your list of references/bibliography displays an excellent range of reliable and credible references; including relevant academic journal articles in addition to textbooks and international databases, as applicable. No use of less robust and unreliable sources; i.e. www.tutor4u.com; www.ukessays.com etc. Good extent of proactivity. Good research, using a good range of academic theories and literature to support your arguments but may lack appropriate underpinning in some places or might make use of less robust sources. Main points correctly supported with references but some references or details missing. Your list of references/bibliography displays a good range of reliable and mostly credible references; including relevant academic journal articles in addition to textbooks and international databases, as applicable. Satisfactory level of proactivity and research, using an acceptable range of academic theories and literature to underpin arguments. Some important references might be missing or there may be an over reliance on websites. Your list of references/bibliography displays a satisfactory range of mostly reliable and credible references. Some of the main points correctly supported with references but some references or details may be missing.

Acceptable breadth of proactivity related to academic theories and literature. Shame you used a limited range of references. Limited academic journal articles in addition to textbooks to underpin arguments. Might rely more on just literature covered in class and (reliable?) internet sources. Some referencing done correctly but lacks referencing for many points or lacks details for many references. Some use of less robust and unreliable sources; i.e. tutor4u; ukessays etc. Unacceptable breadth of reading and research with over-reliance on internet sources.  Might rely more on some of the literature covered in class and sources of limited or no academic value (i.e. unreliable internet sources)

or common sense. Inadequate support for points made and / or incorrect presentation of references list. Use of less robust and unreliable sources; i.e. tutor4u; ukessays etc.
